What should I do in my first Brigandine Abyss seasons?

Hour one of this Brigandine Abyss beginner guide is a season route, not a tour of every UI tab. Work the checklist in order and you will have quest income and a Leader-safe squad before you argue about Mission Mode win conditions.

Brigandine Abyss first-season Organization and hex deploy loop
  • Do01Confirm you launched Brigandine Abyss (Steam AppID 3211430), not an older Forsena / Runersia disc.
  • Do02Start Story Mode for tutorial pacing, or Mission Mode only if you already know the loop.
  • Do03On the world map, note which neighbor you can actually reach this Attack Phase.
  • Do04During Organization, send unused Leaders on quests/exploration before you shop cosmetics.
  • Do05Build one squad: 1 Leader + monsters that fit Command Points (you may not field five expensive units).
  • Do06In battle, path to the enemy Leader — defeating them forces that squad to retreat.
  • Do07After the fight, check promotions: Class Change can raise a monster’s Command cost.

Season beat

A season is Organization then Attack. Organization is where Brigandine Abyss is won for new players: idle Leaders produce nothing. Attack is optional in the sense that you choose *whether* to invade — but stalling forever cedes the map tempo to Neo Abyssloa and neighbors.

Why Leader KO comes first

Official systems copy is blunt: each squad is a Leader plus up to five monsters, and killing the Leader retreats the whole squad. That is the beginner shortcut. Clearing every monster while the Leader kites is how first battles balloon.

How do I pick a starter nation?

Story Mode ships six campaigns. You do not need the previous Brigandine games. Pick a theme you will actually finish — each route is a long war sim, not a 20-minute ARPG chapter.

Gran DragnicaLargoDragons / Dragon Tamers

Practical starter advice

Hands-on reports treat Scarlet Will (Garnet) and Gran Dragnica (Largo) as readable first campaigns: mercenary / dragon fantasy, fewer “hidden village” time-dilation wrinkles than Purifanoe. Samura Village (Saya) is a strong pick if you want a martial-clan tone. Pandemyuon (TYPE-F) is the chimera-lab story — fine, just not the gentlest lore on-ramp.

Mission Mode’s 24 nations are better after you understand Organization. Unique victory conditions (unify, collect, repay debt, defend) punish a first save that still fumbles Command Points. See story mode and mission mode.

How should I spend the Organization Phase?

Organization is a budget, not a lore screen. Time is limited. The Brigandine Abyss beginner guide rule is: production first, shopping second, vanity never.

Brigandine Abyss Organization Phase UI still
ActionDo this ifSkip if
Quests / explorationA Leader is not invading this seasonYou already overflow materials you cannot spend
Recruit monstersYou have Command Points and a hole in the squadThe unit’s cost will break the cap after Class Change
Traveling merchantA weapon/armor upgrades the invading LeaderYou are buying “cool” gear for bench units
Stronghold upgradeYou own the material and the bonus matches your raceYou are one season from an event battle and broke
Class ChangeLevel 10 (or 20 with item / faction-leader exception)The promotion raises cost and you cannot field the squad

Command Points are the real party size

Reviews confirm each Leader has a Command / Rune capacity and each monster spends it. Promotions can increase cost. Beginners who “always bring five” suddenly cannot deploy their best dragon. Plan the cap before the Attack Phase, not on the deploy screen.

What wins the first hex battle?

Hex combat in Brigandine Abyss rewards pathing, height, and affinities — but your first win condition is still Leader knockout plus not feeding the AI free counter-kills.

Deploy rules

You send up to three Leaders (each with a monster squad) on an invasion. Formations come from the Leader. Obstacles and height change movement and safety tiles. If a fight looks lost, remember Story event battles can be Game Over — those are not the same as a failed optional invasion.

Rally in season one

Rally lets a Leader absorb one monster for a trait (Dragon: Movement +1; Pixie: 5% MP per turn; Demon: team Dark element with Magic Defense −20%; Lizard-type reports: extra Leader action). Use it when the map is cramped or you need a second action — not on every unit “because it exists.” Full table: rally.

What beginner mistakes waste a campaign?

Launch-week reviews call out hidden difficulty modifiers (tankier enemies, worse hit rates) more than smarter AI. Play on a difficulty you can actually hit on — missing constantly is not a “git gud” puzzle.

MistakeFix
Idle Leaders every seasonQuest anyone who is not invading
Ignoring Command Point inflationRe-count the squad after each Class Change
Spreading six Story savesFinish one campaign; you have 20 slots later
Treating event battles as optionalPrep a global roster — event fights can fail the run
Copying Runersia Fandom statsAbyss numbers are a new game — use this wiki’s TBA flags
Skipping Rally on dense mapsAbsorb a movement or extra-action trait when tiles are tight

What should I read after this beginner guide?

Open factions to lock a nation, then combat for hex habits, then monsters once you start recruiting. Tips for season QoL live on tips.

FAQ

Do I need to play older Brigandine games first?

No. Abyss is a new Meltitea setting. Prior titles help with series vocabulary (Leaders, monsters, quests), not with required story.

Should I start in Story Mode or Mission Mode?

Story Mode for the first campaign. Mission Mode’s 24 unique victory conditions assume you already spend Organization well.

Does the Steam demo save carry over?

Official/demo notes say demo progress generally does not inherit. Treat the demo as a loop sampler.

How long is a campaign?

Marketing cites 200+ hours across six stories plus Mission Mode. Player reports put a first Story campaign around the high teens to ~30 hours — confirm against your difficulty and grinding habits.
